66' Pilot Classic-1 Mazu
The design concept for 'Mazu' was to create a fast yacht with a layout suitable for warmer climates that can be sailed by a couple if desired, and that can also comfortably sleep up to eight people. The cockpit is, accordingly, very spacious for a yacht of this size, measuring over four metres in length. This provides a comfortable dining space for eight forward, while the aft section contains a large diameter wheel and electric winches which allow the sails to be trimmed without leaving the helm. Aft of the helm station is a large sunbathing area.
Hoek Design was also responsible for the interior design, which is based on New England styling. The layout consists of four double cabins and a separate crew cabin forward. Reminiscent of the Wally Nano, this yacht has a low-profile wraparound glass superstructure that creates a very light and open feeling.
The hull is built in cold-moulded epoxy with carbon reinforcements, and has a teak covered deck and flush carbon hatches. A three-metre T-shaped keel, a carbon rudder and a full carbon rig package including a V boom & EC6 rigging from Southern Spars, as well as a long waterline and medium displacement, will result in a fast and easily sailed yacht.
The 66' Pilot Classic design is the elegant result of the collaboration between Hoek Design and the producer Performance Classic Yachts and is being built in series. The second yacht is built in carbon composites however with a taller mast, deeper keel and higher righting moment.
